2012 Ford Edge hits 30 miles per gallon with EcoBoost 2.0L engine

Ford has been making some headlines in the auto news world with the expected release of their line up that will be making use of their EcoBoost 2.0L 4 cylinder powerplant in North America for the model year 2012. Just recently, the car manufacturer announced that the new Ford Explorer can hit a 28 mpg mark while cruising on the highway. Now, sources are saying that the new Edge is even better with Edge Ecoboost returning a 30 mpg rating.

There are reports that Ford dealers will be updating their order guide for the Ford Edge 2012 model updating the sheet with the 2.0L EcoBoost EPA ratings. The guide will have the Edge at 21 miles per gallon during city driving and 30 mpg on the highway.

Just like its Ford Explorer Ecoboost sibling, the Edge Ecoboost will have around 275 lb-ft of torque and can generate around 240 horsepower.

The EcoBoost powerplant will be an option fo all trims of the Ford Edge: Limited, SEL, and SE. The engine will be paried with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Aside from its new heart, the Ford Edge also gets some tweaks for some of its exterior elements. Changes made were primarily based on how it will contribute to the fuel efficiency of the vehicle. Some consumers will likely miss the extra power and torque of the V6 3.5L engine used today but the wallet will most likely be smiling as drivers will not frequent the petrol stations much.

The production of the 2012 Ford Edge kicks off on August 8.
