World’s Fastest Roadster: Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport

Among the fastest, grandest, and meanest cars in the industry today, the Bugatti Veyron is perhaps the one with the biggest share in the fame game.

Despite the luxurious package and heavy price tag, loyal Bugatti customers still wants more. Ergo, the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport, an exclusive “roofless” version is being manufactured in the company’s state-of-the-art Molsheim facility in France with an initial 150 units to boost. The Grand Sport debuted at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance sometime last August.

A pre-production test drive was hosted by Bugatti for enlisted customers at Cannes last May. With the Veyron’16.4 Grand Sport’s production in full swing, the car company decided to tour the countryside is called for.

Recently released photos show the Grand Sport dashing though the magnificent Napa Valley hillsides. We see that car’s dark interior perfectly compliments its snow white exterior. This color scheme allows the “roofless” feature of the Grand Sport to stand out even more.

The Grand Sport accelerates up to 252mph with its roof attached. Without the roof in place, the Grand Sport runs at the speed of 224mph, earning the title of the faster roadster in the world for a number of years.

The first Grand Sport model was auctioned at $2.9 million at during an event at the Pebble Beach to a wealthy buyer who got the privilege of being the first owner. The remaining 149 units will be sold at €1.4 million ($2 million more of less) with the 50 units officially reserved to enlisted customers.

Despite being labeled a roadster, the Grand Sport actually features a removable targa style roof that must be stored away manually before setting off for a drive.

According to Bugatti’s communication chief, Georges Keller, the roofless targa option was the only one available because there was no other solution which could fit with the Veyron’s safety cage. Most low-volume supercars use targa panels because of the low cost of development and to retain the structural integrity of the chassis.
